KyMani has always been interested in working on cars and has been working on cars with his Dad and Grandpa since he could walk. He has had some struggles in the traditional high school setting and is currently behind where he should be in credits. He is driven, passionate and certain that the automotive tech industry is the career path for him. He has had a lot of extenuating life circumstances that contributed to him falling behind in school. We lost his dad in 2019 to suicide which was followed by the loss of his best friend to a fatal car accident 3 months later and his Nonni passed 3 months after that. I am writing this on his behalf because I know he would love the opportunity at a fresh start continuing his education while doing something he loves. We are currently in Portland OR making plans to move to the Phoenix area to escape my abusive and dangerous ex-boyfriend. He has experienced so much hardship and trauma being in and out of the foster care system during his youth, followed by the grief of losing loved ones and compounded by the abusive relationship that we are fleeing to escape. He is so smart, empathetic and kind despite everything he's been through. Given the chance to participate in a program like yours will set him up with the confidence and skills needed to ensure his future will not look like his past. You would be lucky to have him as an addition to your community and I hope you understand why I chose to explain his current life circumstances. He's a really good kid that's been through some pretty crappy stuff who deserves the chance to shine and be successful while we start our new lives in a new city. |
